Mr. Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Vice President and Incharge Sindh Region, FPCCI left for Colombo for attending the Regional Conference on SMEs and R and D at Colombo, Sri Lanka by Asian Development Bank Institute – ADBI of Japan

Karachi, December 22, 2015 (PPI-OT): Mr. Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Vice President and Incharge Sindh Region, Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended Regional Conference on SMEs and R and D: Collaboration for Commercialization at Colombo, Sri Lanka.

He will represent Pakistan in the said conference which will attend by the representatives of more than 40 Chambers of Commerce from different countries. The conference is provided the opportunity to discuss effective methods of fostering collaboration between public research institutions, universities and private enterprises. The conference is organized by Asian Development Bank Institute – ADBI of Japan , National Enterprise Development Authority, Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Sri Lanka – NEDA; Coordinating Secretariat for Science Technology and Innovation (COSTI) and Ministry of Science, Technology and Research of Sri Lanka.

Mr. Muhammad Ikram Rajput stated that public policy has an important role in helping to connect public R and D with the private sector to make new ideas commercially viable. He added that the government can encourage R and D centres to see the importance of taking new ideas beyond the research phase to the identification, design, prototyping and commercial stages through active collaboration with private sector. He appreciated the organizers for organizing the conference and inviting the representation from different Chambers of Commerce from different countries, by which he had good interaction with his counterparts from different countries in terms of changing the mindset of researchers and the way in which research institutes and universities operate.

Mr. Muhammad Ikram Rajput expressed that such conference with international representation should also be held in Pakistan as well and Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry – FPCCI can play a vital role in such venture.
