Musadik Malik Stresses AI’s Role in Climate Governance

Islamabad: Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik has highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence in climate governance and disaster risk management, stressing its predictive and preventive potential.

According to Radio Pakistan, speaking at the National Artificial Intelligence Workshop in Islamabad today, Dr. Malik stated that AI could help address Pakistan’s challenges related to fragmented and limited data, which often hinder effective policymaking. He emphasized that the integration of AI technologies is crucial in enhancing the country’s ability to respond to climate-related issues more efficiently.

Referring to the Pakistan Vulnerability Report, Dr. Malik pointed out that twenty districts have been identified as highly vulnerable to climate risks. Among these, eighteen districts are located in Balochistan, while the remaining two are in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Minister underscored the importance of using AI to better understand and mitigate risks in these vulnerable areas, which are particularly susceptible to the impacts of climate change.
