Islamabad: Mushaal Hussein Mullick, Chairperson of the Peace and Culture Organisation and wife of detained Kashmiri leader Muhammad Yasin Malik, has called for the Kashmir issue to be escalated to international forums, stating that freedom is a fundamental right for the people of Kashmir and negotiations with India are not an option.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mullick emphasized the urgency of this matter following the National Assembly’s Special Committee on Kashmir Affairs meeting, where two subcommittees focusing on human rights and legal issues were established. She highlighted the necessity of an emergency response plan for Jammu and Kashmir and underscored Pakistan’s role in advocating Kashmir’s cause globally.
Mullick criticized India for altering the demographics of the occupied territory by settling non-Kashmiris there and pointed out that many Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders are currently imprisoned or under house arrest. She also dismissed the ongoing elections in Jammu and Kashmir as inadequate compared to the plebiscite promised by the United Nations.
She urged the media to play a more active role in exposing the situation in Kashmir and called for the release of all detained Hurriyat leaders and activists. Mullick also provided an update on her husband’s legal struggles, noting that his case is still in the courts with the next hearing scheduled for September 15.
