Nation Pays Tribute to Martyrs of Gayari Sector

Islamabad: The nation is paying glowing tribute to the martyrs of the Gayari Sector on their 13th anniversary, being observed today. On this day in April 2012, a tragic incident took place when a large avalanche hit a Battalion Headquarters of Pakistan Army at the Gayari Sector in Siachen Glacier.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Battalion Headquarters was completely destroyed in the tragedy resulting in the martyrdom of one hundred and twenty-nine brave soldiers of Pakistan Army. The foreign rescue teams had declared this mission impossible, but the Pakistan Army, especially the Engineers Corps, carried out the mission with great courage and bravery.

In memory of the martyrs, the Yadgar-e-Shahada was also built on the high peak of Siachen.
