National Assembly Passes Resolutions on Media Literacy, Overbilling, and Inclusivity

Islamabad: The National Assembly has passed several significant resolutions aimed at addressing current societal needs, including initiating media literacy training in schools, controlling utility overbilling, and enhancing inclusivity. These resolutions reflect the Assembly’s commitment to addressing diverse issues ranging from educational reforms to social welfare.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, one of the key resolutions, introduced by Syed Ali Qasim Gillani, calls for the government to develop media literacy programs for schools and colleges to combat the spread of fake news across social and electronic media. Meanwhile, Ms. Sharmila Sahiba Faruqui Hashaam’s resolution urges immediate government action to rectify the issue of over-billing by DISCOS.

Inclusivity and technology also featured prominently in the Assembly’s agenda. Ms. Aliya Kamran’s resolution focused on empowering people with disabilities and supporting marginalized communities, while Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan advocated for the establishment of Software Technology Parks nationwide to boost the IT sector among the youth.

Additionally, the Assembly addressed international concerns, with Ms. Sehar Kamran’s resolution condemning recent violent acts in Gaza and Lebanon. Legislative activity also included the passage of “The Seed (Amendment) Bill, 2024” and “The Banking Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2024,” alongside the introduction of several other bills referred to standing committees for further scrutiny.

The session also highlighted ongoing governmental efforts to resolve pension issues for retired Radio Pakistan employees, with assurances given that outstanding payments would be resolved following verification.

The House is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow at 11 a.m. to continue its deliberations.
