National Assembly Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research meets

Islamabad, February 21, 2019 (PPI-OT): Meeting for the Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research was held on 21st February, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the Committee Room No. 7 (Fourth Floor), Parliament House, Islamabad. The meeting commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran. Minutes of previous meeting of the Committee which was held on 12th February, 2019 were confirmed.

The Minister for National Food Security and Research congratulated Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan on being elected as Chairman, Standing Committee and assured the Committee to cooperate and resolve the issues of agriculture sector in the country. He apprised the Committee that Agriculture is the backbone of the country which was ignored in the past. Prime-Minister of Pakistan has plan to promote this sector on priority basis and we have to pay our role to promote agriculture for the betterment of our country. He added that the issue of potato crop could not be resolved by its export however, it was our good luck for our potato crop due to rainy days, other-wise growers could protest on this issue.

The Chairman, Standing Committee ascertained the Committee Members as well as the staff of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research that photo sessions of the farmers and growers of rice, potato, sugarcane, cotton and all other crops will be taken to give them benefits by value addition of their things in the industries and factories. He added that the Committee suggests giving benefits to the growers of all the crops through the projects of the Ministry so the Ministry of National Food Security and Research should take solid measures to provide benefits to the growers and small farmers of all the crops in the country.

The Agenda No.2 regarding scrutiny of the budgetary proposals of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research relating to the Public Sector Development Program for financial year 2019-20 as required under rule 201 (6) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007 was discussed in the meeting. Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security and Research briefed the Committee Members about the Projects of the Ministry and explained on the issues of agriculture Sector on the queries of the honourable Members. The Committee after long discussion approved the Public Sector Development Programme of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research for the financial year 2019-20.
