Srinagar: Following their electoral success in the recent assembly elections in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, leaders of the National Conference (NC) have reaffirmed their dedication to fulfilling their pre-election manifesto, which includes the restoration of statehood and Article 370.
According to Kashmir Media Service, NC leader Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi, victor of the Pampore seat, expressed the party’s commitment during a speech at the party headquarters in Srinagar. He emphasized the trust the voters have placed in the NC and the party’s responsibility to honor its promises, stating, “After 32 years, the people have placed immense trust in us, and it’s our duty to honor that.”
Masoodi criticized tactics used against the NC, such as the strategic fielding of independent candidates intended to split the vote, but praised the electorate for seeing through these maneuvers and voting decisively. He firmly reiterated the party’s commitment to restoring the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370, comparing the region’s situation to other Indian states with similar protections and questioning why such measures should threaten India’s sovereignty.
Another NC leader, Sadiq, who secured the Zadibal seat in Srinagar, pointed out the shift in power dynamics with the BJP now in the opposition after a decade. He stressed the NC’s readiness to confront the BJP and maintain their stance on the key issues. “We stand firm on our promises, including the restoration of Article 370, and we will fight vigorously to achieve it,” he declared, dismissing rumors of the party backtracking on its commitments as baseless.
The NC’s firm stance highlights a crucial phase for Jammu and Kashmir as the party gears up to push for significant constitutional changes promised to their electorate.
