NDMA Issues Alert for Potential Weather-Related Hazards Across Country

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert regarding potential weather-related hazards in various parts of the country until the 24th of this month.

According to Radio Pakistan, there is a risk of flash flooding in the Shimshal, Hunza, Chapursan, Kilik, Shigar, Shyok, and Hushe rivers within the districts of Hunza, Shigar, and Ghanche in Gilgit-Baltistan. In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, water levels are likely to rise to dangerous levels in the Jhelum, Neelum, Poonch, and Mahl rivers, as well as Betar Nullah, Bhimber Nullah, the Kanshi River, and tributary streams of the Jhelum and Poonch rivers.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, flash floods are expected in the Chitral, Kabul, Swat, and Panjkora rivers, as well as Muqam Nullah and Kalpani Nullah. Similar conditions may also affect local streams in Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Kohat, Bannu, Karak, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, North and South Waziristan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Mansehra, Buner, and Swabi districts.

In Punjab, there is a possibility of flooding in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, Soan River, the Potohar region, as well as seasonal streams and rivers in northeastern Balochistan. There is also a risk of urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Khushab, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Lahore, Okara, Chakwal, and Attock.

The NDMA has directed district administrations to ensure continuous monitoring of rivers and streams, pre-deployment of rescue teams, and implementation of precautionary measures in vulnerable areas. The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable and mountainous areas.
