New Delhi’s Control in Jammu and Kashmir Departments Criticized by Congress Leader

Srinagar: Congress IIOJK chapter chief Tariq Hameed Karra asserted that securing full statehood for occupied Jammu and Kashmir remains a fundamental demand of his party. Karra’s comments highlight the ongoing political tensions in the region over administrative control and statehood status.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking during an outreach program on the outskirts of Srinagar, Karra expressed disappointment over the lack of fully restored statehood during recent elections. “Our aim in the election was clear – to achieve statehood for Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated, emphasizing that the issue was a focal point in the party’s campaign.

Karra confirmed that while the Congress is part of an alliance, it will abstain from participating in any territory government arrangements until a definitive decision on statehood is made. He criticized reports indicating that certain vital administrative departments may remain under New Delhi’s control, stating that this situation is unacceptable. “We refuse incomplete statehood,” he asserted, adding that selective control by New Delhi over key departments is not viable.

Karra reaffirmed the party’s commitment to advocating for full statehood for occupied Jammu and Kashmir, indicating that future decisions will be influenced by ongoing discussions regarding statehood.
