Brussels: Pakistan and the European Investment Bank have signed a declaration to advance a crucial sewage water project in Karachi. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 15th Pak-EU Joint Commission, marking a significant step forward in addressing Karachi’s wastewater management challenges.
According to Radio Pakistan, the declaration formalises the European Investment Bank’s commitment to finance the Karachi Water Infrastructure Framework project. This initiative aims to improve sewage and wastewater management in the city, ensuring a safe water supply and enhancing water security for Karachi’s rapidly growing population. The project aligns with Pakistan’s efforts to modernise essential urban services and develop climate-resilient infrastructure.
The signing of the declaration underscores the ongoing momentum in Pakistan-EU cooperation, highlighting shared priorities in sustainable development, public service delivery, and climate and environmental resilience. This collaboration reflects the mutual interest in addressing critical urban infrastructure needs.
Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Muhammad Humair Karim, expressed his appreciation for the European Investment Bank’s increased engagement in Pakistan. He emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation with European partners to tackle pressing development and infrastructure challenges.
