Pakistan and Indonesia Forge New Path for SME Collaboration

Lahore: In a notable advancement for economic relations and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), Pakistan and Indonesia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering collaboration between the two nations. The signing ceremony, held at the Prime Minister’s House, was attended by Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, and Indonesia’s President, Prabowo Subianto.

The MoU, exchanged by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar, and Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, Sugiono, underscores a commitment to enhance SME development. This agreement seeks to foster technology transfer, capacity building, and market access, while also encouraging export promotion and joint initiatives in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif highlighted the significance of SMEs as pivotal to economic growth and employment. He stated that the collaboration with Indonesia is expected to open new pathways for Pakistani SMEs, fostering innovation and economic integration within the region.

Haroon Akhtar emphasized that the MoU aligns with Pakistan’s vision of SME-led economic growth, aiming to create sustainable opportunities and enhance trade relations between the two countries.

Acting CEO of SMEDA, Nadia Jahangir Seth, reiterated the organization’s dedication to supporting SME internationalization through technical assistance and market linkage support, ensuring that SMEs benefit from cross-border opportunities.

The collaboration is a reflection of both governments’ shared goals to empower SMEs as catalysts for economic expansion and stronger bilateral trade and investment relationships.
