Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan Aim to Boost Bilateral Trade and Economic Ties

Islamabad: In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema met with Kyrgyz Minister of Finance H.E. Mr. Daniiar Amangeldiev to discuss opportunities for increasing trade and cooperation between their countries. The meeting, which also focused on building on the outcomes of the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Islamabad, highlighted the mutual commitment to expanding economic interactions.

According to Press Information Department, both ministers acknowledged the current trade volume, which stood at USD 8.63 million for the fiscal year 2022-23, with Pakistani exports at USD 3.33 million and imports from Kyrgyzstan at USD 5.3 million. They expressed a mutual desire to balance and enhance these figures through strategic partnerships in various sectors, including agriculture, energy, mining, and education.

The discussions also revisited the accomplishments of the 4th Session of the Pak-Kyrgyz Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC) held in November 2023, with both sides committing to advance the agreements made during that session. Minister Cheema stressed the importance of convening Joint Working Groups to promote collaboration in crucial areas such as trade and agriculture.

Looking ahead, Minister Cheema expressed enthusiasm about hosting the upcoming 5th Session of the IGC in Islamabad and emphasized the strategic importance of finalizing the ‘Transit Trade Agreement’ along with other Memorandums of Understanding focusing on agriculture and trade.

This meeting marks a pivotal moment in strengthening the economic ties between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan, underscoring a shared vision for prosperity and development within the region.
