Islamabad: The inaugural meeting of the Pakistan-Trkiye Joint Standing Committee on Security, Defence and Intelligence was held today in Islamabad. The Turkish delegation was led by Director General for South Asia, Ambassador Cihad Erginay, while the Pakistani side was headed by Additional Secretary (Afghanistan and West Asia), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Syed Ali Asad Gillani.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Joint Standing Committee on Security, Defence and Intelligence was established following the seventh Session of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between Pakistan and Trkiye, which took place on 12-13 February 2025. During the meeting, both sides engaged in discussions about emerging geo-political trends, focusing on global and regional security issues.
The discussions within the Joint Standing Committee are expected to aid in preparations for the Joint Commission, which will be co-chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan and the Foreign Minister of Trkiye. Pakistan and Trkiye maintain a strong historic and multi-faceted relationship, grounded in shared religious, cultural, and strategic ties.
Both nations continue to collaborate across a wide range of areas, including defence, trade, energy, transport, culture, tourism, education, defence industries, agriculture, health, science, and technology.
