Pakistan and Türkiye Sign 21 Agreements to Boost Economic Ties

Islamabad: Pakistan and Türkiye have signed 21 agreements aimed at enhancing trade and investment across various sectors, following a meeting in Islamabad between Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Turkish Minister of Trade H.E. Prof. Dr. Omer Bolat. The meeting underscored mutual cooperation, with both nations committing to explore new economic opportunities.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, the agreements cover key sectors including services, tourism, education, IT, defense, and infrastructure. Both countries discussed the need to revamp the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) to fully realize the trade potential between them. The possibility of rejuvenating the D8 Preferential Trade Agreement was also explored to boost trade among member countries.

Minister Jam Kamal Khan emphasized Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate foreign investment, highlighting the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). He proposed a “Made in Pakistan” exhibition in Türkiye, citing its strategic location as an ideal trade hub.

Minister Bolat assured that Turkish investors are keen to expand their investments in Pakistan and emphasized improving Pakistani exports, particularly Basmati rice. He also highlighted Türkiye’s thriving health tourism sector and discussed potential collaborations in medical technology.

Both ministers reviewed upcoming trade events to further strengthen ties, including Pakistan’s Food Tech Expo and Türkiye’s growing role as a global trade hub. The meeting concluded with a commitment to enhance strategic cooperation, marking a new era of economic collaboration between the two nations.
