New York: Pakistan has commended Columbia’s dedication to peace and social reforms at the United Nations Security Council, while also engaging in discussions to enhance bilateral cooperation with African nations.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, delivered a statement at the UNSC briefing on Columbia. He urged armed groups to engage sincerely with the government to establish a ceasefire promptly, forsake violence, and recommit to dialogue without preconditions.
In addition to addressing the UNSC, Ambassador Akram met with Rwanda’s Foreign Minister Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe in New York. Their discussions focused on bilateral relations, counterterrorism efforts in Africa, and the situation in the Great Lakes region. They emphasized the importance of collaboration in UN peacekeeping operations and African Union-led Peace Support Operations to maintain regional and global peace.
Ambassador Akram also held talks with South Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ramadan Mohamed Abdallah Goc. The meeting centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation in economic development, capacity building, trade, and the services sector, with the goal of fostering stronger ties between Pakistan and South Sudan.
