New York: Pakistan’s acting ambassador to the United Nations, Usman Jadoon, stated that lasting global peace and stability will remain unattainable until territory’s under foreign occupation, including Kashmir and Palestine, are granted the right to self-determination.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ambassador Jadoon made these remarks during a meeting with a 23-member delegation from the US War College at Pakistan’s Mission to the UN in New York.
Highlighting the Kashmir issue, Jadoon emphasized that the UN Charter upholds the right to self-determination as a core principle, and it is one of the UN Security Council’s foundational elements in addressing the Kashmir conflict. He reminded the delegation that Security Council resolutions call for a UN-supervised plebiscite to allow Kashmiris to decide their own future, asserting that this framework remains essential for resolving the dispute peacefully.
On the topic of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reform, Jadoon reiterated Pakistan’s stance against granting permanent membership to any country, arguing that it could deepen the Council’s existing challenges. Instead, Pakistan advocates for an increase in non-permanent seats to make the UNSC more inclusive and accountable.
