Pakistan Calls for Adherence to UN Charter Principles to Strengthen Global System

New York: During an Open Debate on “Strengthening the UN System,” Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, emphasized the necessity of strict adherence to the UN Charter’s principles to fortify the international body. He addressed the assembly on behalf of the Like-Minded Group of countries, advocating for reforms that ensure fairness and resist domination by major powers.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ambassador Akram criticized the current state of the United Nations, pointing out the need for reform to rectify historical injustices and prevent the manipulation of the system by influential nations. He highlighted the role of the General Assembly in resolving conflicts and promoting disarmament as crucial to a more equitable and effective UN. Additionally, Akram called for a comprehensive multilateral approach to the debt crisis affecting numerous developing countries, underscoring the urgency of global cooperation to address these financial challenges.

The debate served as a platform for discussing enhancements to the UN structure, reflecting a collective aspiration among like-minded nations to evolve the system into a more robust and balanced institution that can adequately respond to global needs.
