Pakistan Calls for Global Legal Framework to Address Cyberspace Challenges

Karachi: Pakistan has called for a global legal framework to address cyberspace challenges. Delivering a statement during an Arria-Formula meeting on the topic of ‘Commercial Spyware and the Maintenance of International Peace and Security’, in New York, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, highlighted the increasing concerns over the militarization of cyberspace. He pointed out the development of offensive cyber capabilities and the unchecked military applications of new and emerging technologies as significant contributors to these concerns.

According to Radio Pakistan, Usman Jadoon stated that Pakistan has experienced firsthand the dangers posed by such technologies when hostile actors utilized spyware tools to target citizens, public figures, and state entities. This situation underscores the critical need for a robust global legal framework to ensure international peace and security in cyberspace.

Jadoon reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fostering international dialogue aimed at formulating this global legal framework. He emphasized the urgency of addressing gaps in existing international law to effectively combat the challenges posed by the evolving nature of cyber threats.
