Pakistan Calls for Renewed Commitment to Int’l Law in Palestine and IIOJK

Pakistan: Pakistan has called for unhindered humanitarian access, accountability, and renewed commitment to international law, particularly in Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Radio Pakistan, the call was made by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during his address at the UN Security Council open debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflict.

On the issue of Palestine, the Ambassador emphasized the immense suffering of civilians and stressed the need for safe, rapid, and unhindered humanitarian access. He called for accountability for violations and the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and statehood.

Regarding IIOJK, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad highlighted that the dispute has persisted on the Security Council’s agenda for over seven decades. He noted that civilians in the region continue to endure hardship under foreign occupation, including massive militarization, arbitrary detentions, restrictions on fundamental freedoms, demographic engineering, and the denial of their internationally recognized right to self-determination.

The Ambassador affirmed that Pakistan would continue to support efforts to uphold international law, ensure accountability, advance the peaceful settlement of disputes, and protect civilians wherever they are threatened. He stressed that civilians are not collateral damage but the very people the United Nations was created to save.
