Pakistan: Pakistan has called for sustained political support to ensure that United Nations peacekeeping remains relevant, effective, and fit for purpose amid a changing international security environment. This was stated by Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad at the Security Council debate on United Nations Peacekeeping Operations in New York.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Ambassador emphasized that the United Nations must prepare today for the capabilities peacekeeping will need tomorrow. He underscored the importance of continuous support to adapt to evolving global security challenges.
Asim Iftikhar Ahmad also highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping. Over 170,000 Pakistani peacekeepers have served under the UN flag, with 183 having made the ultimate sacrifice for peace. This commitment demonstrates Pakistan’s dedication to global peace efforts and the crucial role its personnel play in international missions.
