Pakistan Calls for UNSC Action to End Crisis in Congo

Islamabad: Pakistan has urged the United Nations Security Council to stop the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, identifying it as the root cause of the ongoing conflict in the region. This call for action was made during an emergency session of the UNSC convened to address the crises in Congo.

According to Radio Pakistan, Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasized the need for enhanced oversight and traceability mechanisms. He suggested these mechanisms should operate in coordination with the DRC government, as well as regional and international partners, to effectively address the exploitation issues.

Akram also urged the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda to urgently resume dialogue under the Luanda process to address tensions. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the DRC, condemning any foreign intervention in the nation’s internal matters.

Additionally, Munir Akram called for the withdrawal of Rwandan forces from DRC territory, highlighting the importance of respecting national boundaries and promoting peace in the region.
