Pakistan Calls for Urgent Action to Protect UN Peacekeepers from Emerging Technology Threats

Pakistan: Pakistan has called for urgent action to protect UN Peacekeepers from emerging technology threats. The call was made by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, while speaking at an event on the Safety and Security of UN Peacekeepers in the Context of Emerging Technologies at the UN Headquarters.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Ambassador emphasized that safeguarding peacekeepers is not only an operational necessity but also a responsibility central to the credibility and effectiveness of UN peacekeeping. Asim Iftikhar highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing commitment to UN peacekeeping, noting that Pakistan remains among the largest troop and police contributors and that the country has lost 182 peacekeepers while serving under the UN flag.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to work with all partners to advance the safety and security agenda, stressing that peacekeepers should not be expected to take on greater risks with reduced resources. He emphasized that their protection is a shared responsibility of the international community.
