Pakistan Challenges India’s Claim on Kashmir at UN Assembly

Islamabad: Pakistan has formally rejected India’s claim that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of its territory during a debate on self-determination at the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly. The declaration came in response to remarks made by an Indian delegate.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, First Secretary Sarfraz Gohar exercised his right of reply to counter the Indian position. He argued that no unilateral declaration can alter the historical, political, and legal facts of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Gohar further stated that India’s efforts to deny the Kashmiri people’s pursuit of freedom are destined to fail.

The exchange highlights ongoing tensions and the complex geopolitical dispute over the Kashmir region, which both countries claim in full but control in parts. The international community continues to monitor the situation, which involves significant human rights concerns and implications for regional security.
