Pakistan Faces Mixed Weather Patterns, Drought Conditions Persist in Several Regions

Islamabad: Pakistan experienced varied weather conditions from October 1st to 7th, with some areas receiving above-normal rainfall while others remained dry. The forecast continues to indicate predominantly hot and dry weather for most of the country, with some regions expecting isolated rain-wind/thunderstorms.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, the first week of October saw rainfall in the Kashmir region, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Punjab, including cities like Lahore and Faisalabad. However, areas such as Sindh and Baluchistan recorded minimal precipitation, contributing to ongoing dry conditions. Notably, areas like Parachinar and Kohat received below-normal rainfall, exacerbating the drought situation there.

The report also highlights that the mean temperature across the country was above normal, with most regions experiencing temperature increases ranging from 1 to 8°C above the norm, except for Haripur. In terms of soil moisture, which is crucial for agriculture and water supply, higher values were noted in Sindh, Baluchistan, and parts of Punjab. However, lower soil moisture levels were recorded in the rest of the country, indicating dry conditions that could impact water availability and agriculture.

The upcoming forecast from October 8th to 14th suggests that most plain areas will continue to experience hot and dry weather, with partly cloudy skies and possible rain-wind/thunderstorm in Gilgit Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and upper Punjab, including potential heavy falls or hailstorms in isolated areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.
