Pakistan: Pakistan has expressed confidence for more meaningful progress in talks between the US and Iran in the coming days.
According to Radio Pakistan, this was stated by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, while speaking at a Security Council emergency meeting called by Bahrain. The Ambassador highlighted Pakistan’s increased diplomatic engagement with key regional and international stakeholders to facilitate earnest follow-up and implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Iran and the United States. He noted that Pakistan and Qatar concluded separate meetings with US and Iranian negotiators in Doha with positive progress on issues related to the Islamabad MoU, building on the outcomes of the Lake Lucerne Summit. The parties agreed to continue discussions over the coming period, with the next meeting scheduled at the earliest possible time.
Asim Iftikhar Ahmad emphasized that Pakistan continues to facilitate dialogue and confidence-building measures to prevent any escalation and to sustain diplomatic engagement. He mentioned that the continued talks and the presence of all parties at the negotiating table represent a significant positive outcome. He added that channels of communication remain open and efforts persist in ushering peace, security, and tranquility that benefits the entire region and all countries without exception.
