Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front urges upon Trade Development Authority of Pakistan to share with business community its plan to increase exports

Lahore, October 29, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front (PIAF) has urged the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to share with the business community its plan to increase exports.

While talking to a group of leading expoters, the PIAF Chairman Malik Tahir Javed on Tuesday said that delayed dissemination of information about export opportunities were hitting the export sector hard.

He said that TDAP should inform all the stakeholders about the available opportunities and the requirements to avail them expediciously. He said that participation of Pakistani exporters in the international fairs and exhibitions could give a jump to Pakistani exports.

The PIAF Chairman said that there was no dearth of resources in Pakistan but unfortunately, the exports were not increasing with required speed while the other countries of region were far ahead in this particular sector. He said that if all information regarding trade fairs and exhibitions are passed on trade and industry associations, the days are not very far when Pakistani exports would be at par with other leading regional players like China and India.

Malik Tahir Javaid also urged the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) authorities to conduct sminars and workshops at Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the capacity building of upcoming exporters.

Chairman PIAF said that Pakistani merchandise were rapidly losing their share in the international market. He said that trend of repeated increases in electricity, gas and petroleum prices should be stopped as industry cannot survive with such a high input cost.

He said that government should give a package of incentive to industry include low utility prices and cut in export duties and taxes. He said that government’s pledge to decrease petroleum prices was a good omen but government has to make a mentionable cut in the electricity and gas prices as well.

Malik Tahir Javed said that Kalabagh dam was a project of national importance but immediate past regime shelve the project with a one stroke of pen. He said that Kalabagh Dam was not a project of Punjab but of the country. He said that government should work on this mega project that would give a considerable boost to the agriculture sector and would also generate 3500 megawatt cheap electricity.
