Islamabad: The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) on Polio Eradication gathered in Islamabad today, marking a significant event in Pakistan’s ongoing battle against polio. The meeting, which included representatives from federal and provincial governments, key partners, and donor organizations, highlighted the country’s renewed efforts in overcoming the hurdles in its polio eradication campaign.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath, the Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Health, addressed the session, underscoring the government’s steadfast commitment to eradicating polio. He highlighted the support of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, who has made polio eradication a national priority.
Dr. Bharath emphasized the challenges the country faces, such as vaccine hesitancy, access issues, and operational difficulties, but reiterated the government’s resolve to address these issues. He noted the collaborative efforts between federal and provincial entities, alongside international partners, to close gaps in immunization and improve nutrition and hygiene.
With enhanced cross-border cooperation with Afghanistan and improved environmental surveillance, Pakistan is optimistic about halting virus transmission by 2025. Dr. Bharath expressed confidence in the continued support from global partners and donors, reinforcing the government’s dedication to protecting every child across the nation.
