Pakistan Issues Warning of Terrorism Threats Emanating from Afghanistan

New York: Pakistan has issued an urgent warning about a significant terrorism threat stemming from Afghanistan, highlighting concerns during a UN Security Council meeting about the ongoing situation in the conflict-ridden country. The warning emphasizes the activities of the terrorist group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is reportedly carrying out almost daily attacks against Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during the UN Security Council meeting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, referenced the 34th report of the UN monitoring team which illuminates the concerning level of terrorism originating from Afghanistan. Ambassador Akram identified TTP as the largest terrorist organization within Afghanistan, accusing it of conducting frequent terrorist attacks on Pakistan with the alleged support and protection of the Afghan Interim Government and the sponsorship of a major adversary of Pakistan.

Further, Ambassador Akram expressed Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate with both regional and international organizations to address and eliminate the threats posed by TTP, underscoring the necessity for a concerted international effort to tackle the issue effectively.
