Pakistan Looks to Strengthen Regional Peace Through Makkah Joint Defence Agreement

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has announced that Pakistan is eager to work closely with neighboring countries to promote peace and stability in the region. He emphasized the country’s commitment to collaborative efforts during his recent statement on the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ishaq Dar shared via a post on X that the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, signed by Pakistan, Turkiye, and Saudi Arabia, remains open for any regional nation willing to adhere to its fundamental principles. The agreement prioritizes resolving differences through mutual respect and peaceful means, aligning with the core tenets of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that the agreement is the result of years of discussions and coordination, driven by a shared aspiration to enhance strategic cooperation in addressing numerous peace and security challenges. It aims to advance regional peace, stability, and prosperity without replacing any existing bilateral or multilateral agreements with other countries or organizations.

Under the terms of the agreement, an external armed attack on any of the three signatory countries will be regarded as an attack on all, in line with the right of individual and collective self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. Ishaq Dar emphasized that the agreement is purely defensive and not aimed against any country, with its primary objective being to strengthen ongoing efforts toward peace, stability, and prosperity in the wider region.
