Pakistan Meteorological Department Reports Varied Rainfall and Temperature Trends in Early September

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department released its fortnightly drought watch bulletin for the period of 1-15 September 2024, detailing a mix of light to moderate rainfall across the country with specific areas experiencing significant precipitation. The northeastern regions of Punjab along with Potohar and Kashmir received the highest rainfall, while central and western parts of Balochistan and certain areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saw above-normal rainfall levels.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, the data indicates a departure from normal rainfall levels in many areas, with central and western Balochistan, eastern Punjab, and parts of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa receiving more than the average expected precipitation for this time of year. Meanwhile, the overall temperature across Pakistan has been above normal, with the most significant increases observed in Zhob, Shirani, Dalbandin, and Gwadar districts.

The report also highlights the number of consecutive dry days, with Nokundi and Dalbandin experiencing the longest dry spells. Given the varied climatic conditions observed, the Pakistan Meteorological Department advises all stakeholders to stay updated with weather advisories and plan disaster risk reduction strategies accordingly.
