Pakistan produces world’s finest quality textile products: Haroon Agar

Karachi, September 24, 2013 (PPI-OT): Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s President Muhammad Haroon Agar has emphasized that Pakistan produces world’s finest quality textile products; the leading international brands purchase their products from Pakistani textile suppliers. Textile also contributes over 50 per cent of the total export share of Pakistan.

Pakistan has a network of textile industries across the country including all the major clusters like weaving, dying, printing, hosiery and knitwear, apparel, towel, bed linen, denim etc. Exchanging views with Muhammad Hanif Kasbati, Chief Executive of Pakistan Textile City Limited, he asserted upon the need of more industrialization in the textile clusters for enhancing exports which will ultimately uplift the economy. He admired the initiative of Textile City on public and private partnership basis which is in the interest of the country and its citizens.

He stated that the present seven industrial zones in Karachi lack infrastructural facilities of proper roads, railway linkage and other basic amenities like energy, gas, water etc. The textile policy framework focus on improving textile industry’s competitiveness. He stated that diversification of economic activities and industrial production is crucial.

Major constraints and impediments to industrial development such as, administrative bottlenecks relating to the provision of government services, red tape and time delays, tax administration, commercial laws, labour relations etc. must be controlled. He hoped that the Pakistan Textile City may achieve its desired objectives.

Muhammad Hanif Kasbati, Chief Executive of Pakistan Textile City Limited apprised that the Pakistan Textile City is an unlisted public limited company incorporated in May 2004 under the Companies Ordinance 1984.

It is driven with the vision to develop and operate world-class industrial zones across Pakistan, dedicated to value-added textile industries and project Pakistan as hub of quality textiles. With an authorized capital of Rs 2.2 billion and incorporated as public private joint venture, Pakistan Textile City is committed to develop and manage, the first W.T.O. and I.S.O. compliant textile processing industrial zone at Karachi.

Textile City is spread over an area of 1250 acres of land in Eastern Industrial Zone of Port Qasim and it is conveniently located at 6km from National Highway. It salient features include to create state-of-the-art environment for textile industry; attract local and foreign investment; boost exports of value-added textiles; synergistic environment to encourage vertical integration; employment opportunities for 80,000 people.

The concept of Textile City is to develop an exclusive industrial estate dedicated to value-added textile products. Installation of World Class infrastructure with un-interrupted supply of industrial quality water, stable electricity, gas, CETP, steam for industrial processing, ISO 14001 compliance and essential amenities will enhance productivity, cost effectiveness and quick response delivery.

The company is confident that the launch of Textile City will provide local and foreign investors opportunities to effectively optimize their growth potential in this major industrial sector of Pakistan. He sought support of KCCI to disseminate the information of Pakistan Textile City to its members to motivate their interest to establish industrial units in the Textile City.
