Pakistan Railways Partners with China to Boost Freight Capacity

Lahore: Pakistan Railways is advancing its efforts to bolster the nation’s freight capacity by manufacturing new wagons in collaboration with a Chinese company. This initiative aims to reduce import reliance and attract foreign investment through the Special Investment Facilitation Council.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the project has already witnessed the successful delivery of 200 wagons, with production underway for an additional 620 wagons. This development is anticipated to generate 450 jobs, with a focus on training young technicians in the specialized field of wagon manufacturing.

The project has seen significant progress, with the assembly of 115 flat wagons completed in Lahore through Chinese investment. These wagons are set to be operational by April, enhancing the freight capabilities of Pakistan’s railways.

In addition, the production of 115 advanced wagons in Risalpur, intended for deployment at Karachi Port, is expected to further augment the freight capacity of the country’s rail network.
