Pakistan Stock Exchange Gains Marginally Amid Mixed Sector Performance

Karachi, In a day marked by moderate trading activity, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) saw slight gains in several major indices on May 21, 2024, reflecting a cautious optimism among investors. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the KSE-100 index, a benchmark for market performance, closed at 75,206.77, up by 122.77 points or 0.16 percent from the previous session. The traded volume for the day stood at 462,304,427 shares, with a traded value of PKR 15,871,702,683.

In the broader market, the number of listed companies remained stable at 524 with a listed paid-up capital of PKR 1,694,062 million. Market capitalisation reached PKR 10,164,106,781,806, reflecting the scale and depth of the market. The trading session ended with 174 advancers and 184 decliners, indicating a mixed sentiment across sectors.

Significant movements were also seen in the KSE-All Shares and the KSE-30 indices, which increased by 114.56 points (0.24 percent) and 49.05 points (0.20 percent), respectively. Meanwhile, the BKTi index experienced the highest gain of 1.63 percent, closing at 18,692.72.

On the flip side, the OGTi index faced a downturn, declining by 109.66 points or -0.62 percent, showcasing the challenges within the oil and gas sector. Among the specialized indices, the JSGBKTI saw an impressive rise of 1.37 percent, ending at 19,856.82.

The debt securities market showed stability with 13 publicly listed debt securities totaling an issue size of PKR 60,000,000,000. The market for exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and mutual funds remained active with 9 listed ETFs and 234 open-end mutual funds.

As the PSX navigates through fluctuating global and domestic financial landscapes, these figures provide a snapshot of the current market dynamics, illustrating both the opportunities and risks present in the market today.
