Pakistan Submits 7th National Biodiversity Report to UN Convention

Islamabad: Pakistan has submitted its 7th National Report on the state of biodiversity conservation in the country to the Secretariat of the United Nations-led Convention on Biological Diversity.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Climate Change, Mohammad Saleem Shaikh, stated that the report outlines the progress in ecosystem protection, forest conservation, and implementation of global biodiversity commitments. The report provides a comprehensive account of Pakistan’s efforts to align its national biodiversity policies with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which sets twenty-three global targets aimed at halting and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030.

Saleem Shaikh emphasized that the national report would serve as a key source of information for the global assessment of collective progress under the framework. This assessment will take place during the next meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the biodiversity convention. The review is scheduled for COP17 of the Convention on Biological Diversity in October in Armenia.
