Pakistan Urges Dialogue for Ukraine Conflict Resolution

Pakistan: Pakistan has called upon the parties to demonstrate restraint, take meaningful strides towards de-escalation, and work earnestly towards a ceasefire through a sustained and meaningful dialogue process to resolve the Ukraine issue. Delivering the statement in the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said that protection of civilian lives and infrastructure should remain paramount.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad reiterated the call for upholding the principles of international humanitarian law and emphasized that there is no military solution to this conflict. The Ambassador urged all parties to demonstrate political will, engage in a meaningful, structured, and result-oriented dialogue that addresses the security concerns of all sides. He stressed that the dialogue should be anchored in the principles of the UN Charter and international law, and should respect the relevant multilateral agreements.

He further added that a ceasefire is the first logical and necessary step in this process. Asim Iftikhar stated that Pakistan is a firm believer in the power of dialogue and diplomacy, and will continue to support all endeavors aimed at resolving the issue peacefully, in a just, comprehensive, and durable manner.
