Pakistan Urges Global Counter-Terrorism Reforms at UN General Assembly

New York: Pakistan has called for comprehensive reforms in global counter-terrorism strategies, emphasizing the need to address the evolving nature of terrorism. Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations, delivered the statement at the sixth committee of the UN General Assembly, highlighting insufficient progress in combating various forms of terrorism.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ambassador Jadoon underscored Pakistan’s significant role in dismantling Al-Qaeda and its sacrifices in the war on terror, including the loss of 80,000 lives. He also expressed concern about state-sponsored terrorism from across Pakistan’s borders, citing threats from groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Daesh, and the Majeed Brigade.

Jadoon urged the international community to ensure that counter-terrorism efforts are not used as a pretext to violate human rights, referencing ongoing violations in occupied Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.
