Pakistan Urges United Nations to Support Syria’s Sovereignty

Islamabad: At the United Nations: Pakistan has called for supporting Syria’s sovereignty and putting an end to all forms of external aggression against it.

According to Radio Pakistan, addressing the UN Security Council briefing on the situation in Syria, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, urged the UNSC to back inclusive politics, economic revival, security stabilization, and an end to foreign occupation in Syria. He emphasized that for advancing peace and stability in Syria, the political transition must be credible, inclusive, and nationally owned.

The Ambassador welcomed the lifting of sanctions on Syria and viewed it as an opportunity to harness the potential of the Syrian people and its diaspora. He underscored that investment, reconstruction, employment generation, and revitalizing the economy are indispensable for achieving durable peace.

He demanded the cessation of the occupation of the Syrian Golan, in full compliance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar stressed that Syria’s road to peace requires respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity, alongside consistent, tangible support to meet humanitarian and economic challenges.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s principled position, he stated that Pakistan will continue to support all efforts aimed at consolidating a sovereign, unified, inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous Syria.
