Pakistani Government Aims to Enhance Port Facilities to Attract Global Trade

Islamabad: Efforts are being made by the Pakistani government to improve port facilities in an attempt to draw international trade, as stated by Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh. The minister highlighted an ongoing interest from global port companies and emphasized the potential for increased trade with Central Asian States and Russia due to the cost-efficiency of Pakistani ports.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Sheikh addressed the media, revealing that the Pakistani government is prioritizing the enhancement of its port infrastructure. He noted that the interest from renowned port companies is due to the ports’ capacity to accommodate large vessels. Furthermore, Sheikh mentioned strategic plans to ensure that sixty percent of public sector imports are channeled through the Gwadar Port, which is anticipated to generate employment opportunities in the Balochistan region.
