Pakistan’s Business Sector Commits to Enhancing Due Diligence Practices

Islamabad: The Ministry of Human Rights convened a meeting with key private business entities to deliberate on the German Act on Corporate Due Diligence and the EU Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence (CSDDD). The meeting saw participation from major business associations and aimed to align Pakistan’s commerce sector with international human rights standards.

According to Ministry of Human Rights, the discussion involved representatives from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI), the Islamabad Industrial Association, the SAARC Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and the Pakistan Business Council. The Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Human Rights emphasized that the commerce sector in Pakistan is already in line with these standards, which help address various risks including child labor and environmental damage. This alignment is part of the National Action Plan that the country has been implementing.

Furthermore, the private sector representatives at the meeting pledged to support ongoing consultations and enhance awareness regarding due diligence practices in Pakistan’s business environment. This commitment indicates a proactive approach in ensuring that the business practices in Pakistan not only meet international standards but also safeguard human rights within the corporate sector.
