Pakistan’s Economic Growth Fueled by Agriculture and IT, Says Finance Minister Aurangzeb

Islamabad: Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized the pivotal roles of agriculture and information technology in driving Pakistan’s economic growth, during a meeting with Kevin Piccoli, Deputy Director in the Office of International Affairs at the US Commodity Future Trading Commission.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting focused on the agricultural commodities market and the collaboration between the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and the US Commodity Future Trading Commission. This partnership aims to enhance Pakistan’s commodities futures market through a series of capacity-building training sessions focusing on market development, regulation, and oversight.

The Finance Minister highlighted that Pakistan’s economy grew by 2.38 percent in the current fiscal year, with agriculture standing out as a major growth driver, achieving a remarkable 6.25 percent increase, spurred by double-digit output growth in major crops. He also noted that both the agriculture and IT sectors are primarily driven by domestic factors, and their consistent growth not only stabilizes but also boosts the national economy due to their significant export potential.
