Pakistan’s Finance Minister Discusses Economic Reforms with US Treasury Official

Washington DC: Pakistan’s Finance Minister, Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb, met with Mr. Brent Neiman, the Assistant Secretary for International Finance at the US Treasury Department, to discuss Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms. The meeting focused on broadening the tax base, aligning tax regimes across provinces with federal rates, rationalizing subsidies, reforming the energy sector, overhauling State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), and building climate resilience. Minister Aurangzeb also expressed gratitude for US support in securing the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility for Pakistan.

According to Press Information Department, the briefing covered Pakistan’s comprehensive strategies to stabilize its economy and foster sustainable growth, including the C-PIMA Action Plan for climate action and increased climate adaptation investments. The discussion reaffirmed the collaborative relationship between Pakistan and the United States, highlighting mutual interests in promoting economic stability and resilience in the face of global environmental challenges.

The dialogue with the US Treasury is part of Pakistan’s broader engagement with international partners to ensure effective implementation of its economic reform agenda.
