Pakistan’s UN Envoy Munir Akram Advocates for Multilateralism at General Debate in New York

New York: During the 24th Plenary of the 3rd Committee General Debate, Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, called on the international community to commit to multilateralism and bolster efforts in advancing global peace, development, and human rights protection. Representing a coalition of eighty countries, Akram emphasized the importance of respecting state sovereignty and non-interference in the internal matters of sovereign nations.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Akram criticized the politicization of human rights issues and the imposition of double standards that interfere with state sovereignty under the guise of human rights advocacy. He specifically mentioned Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and Xizang (Tibet) as internal matters of China, underscoring his point about non-interference.

Akram’s statements reflect a broader push by Pakistan at the United Nations to advocate for principles that uphold the integrity of international relations and resist external pressures in national affairs, particularly in contexts sensitive to geopolitical dynamics.
