PALPA to work towards Pakistan International Airlines revival

Islamabad, June 12, 2015 (PPI-OT): The PALPA President, Capt. Amir Hashmi called on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Aviation, Capt. Shujaat Azeem and apprised him of the challenges that the pilots of PIA, the national flag carrier, were facing. He discussed with Mr. Shujaat Azeem all outstanding issues regarding PIA pilots, including the delay in disbursal of outstation allowances.

The Special Assistant reiterated his desire to work towards PIA employee welfare and directed the relevant authorities to resolve the outstanding issues. He also assured the participants of the meeting that he would forward the issue of FED on PIA employee tickets to the Finance Minister.

The meeting, which lasted for 2 hours, ended amicably and all issues were settled to the satisfaction of both parties. For future resolution of issues between the PIA management and PALPA, it was decided to form a review committee comprising representatives of PIA management and PALPA that would work out a new and comprehensive agreement between the two parties, based on the revival of PIA.

The Special Assistant made it abundantly clear that the vision of the Prime Minister was to revive PIA in the shortest possible time and no troublemakers who bring a bad name to the airline and Pakistan would be tolerated.

PIA was already on its way to revival after the induction of 14 modern fuel-efficient aircraft that have been acquired at a record pace. Ten more aircraft, including 3 state-of-the-art Boeing 777 aircraft, will be added to PIA in Q4 2015.

It is also noteworthy that as a consequence of the steps taken by the top leadership, PIA has shown a positive gross operating profit in Q1 2015 after a long time. Appreciating the undeterred resolve of the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Aviation, to turn the airline around, PALPA has promised not to take any steps that may jeopardize the smooth running of PIA and has assured that it would make concerted efforts towards reclaiming the lost glory of the national flag carrier.
