Planning Minister Inaugurates National Open Data Portal

Islamabad: National Open Data Portal was launched in Islamabad on Thursday for public access to government datasets across vital sectors such as health, education, economy, environment, infrastructure, and demographics.

According to Radio Pakistan, the portal was introduced at the Pakistan Open Data Conference 2025, which was jointly organized by the National Center in Big Data and Cloud Computing at LUMS and the Planning Ministry. The initiative aims to promote transparency, empower researchers and civil society, and enable data-driven policymaking and innovation.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal inaugurated the portal, emphasizing that Pakistan’s development narrative will now be written in code and understood through data. He stated that leveraging digital tools is no longer optional but an urgent national priority.
