PM and UN Secretary-General Discuss South Asia Security Situation

Islamabad: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reached out to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the security situation in South Asia. The conversation aimed to address ongoing concerns and foster stability in the region.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Secretary-General briefed the Prime Minister on his efforts to ensure peace and stability, emphasizing his commitment to engaging with all relevant parties. The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the Secretary-General’s ongoing engagement and supported his call for de-escalation in the region.

The Prime Minister reiterated his proposal for an independent, transparent, and credible investigation into the concerns, highlighting that India has not yet provided evidence while continuing with provocative rhetoric. He emphasized Pakistan’s resolve to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Expressing concerns over Indian attempts to influence international financial institutions to Pakistan’s detriment, the Prime Minister underscored the challenges faced by the country’s economic interests. This conversation marked the second phone call between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the UN Secretary-General within a week, reflecting the urgency of the situation.
