PM Calls for Effective Strategy to Enhance Exports to $60b

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the formulation of a comprehensive and effective strategy aimed at boosting Pakistan’s exports to sixty billion dollars over the next five years. He issued these directives while presiding over a high-level meeting in Islamabad to review measures for increasing the nation’s exports.

According to Radio Pakistan, during the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed his economic team to introduce sustainable tariff reforms to facilitate industrial growth and boost exports. He emphasized the importance of focusing on key sectors, including services, information technology, and agriculture, as pivotal drivers of export growth. He reiterated that export-led economic progress is a crucial pillar of the “Uraan Pakistan” vision.

To support the development of export industries, the Prime Minister called for necessary reforms in the governance system of the Export Development Fund. The briefing provided to the Prime Minister included updates on ongoing reforms within the Ministry of Commerce and strategies aimed at achieving the export target of 60 billion dollars within the stipulated timeframe.

Officials informed the Prime Minister about the gradual reduction in tariffs over the past two years and the annual international-level exhibitions hosted by the Ministry of Commerce in Pakistan to promote exports. The briefing also highlighted ongoing consultations with stakeholders on the Strategic Trade Policy Framework 2025-30.

It was noted that the e-commerce policy is in its final consultation phase and will be presented to the Cabinet for approval next month. Additionally, the establishment of the National Compliance Center aims to align Pakistani products with international standards, focusing on developing training programs to enhance the capabilities of Pakistan’s export industries.
