PM Constitutes Inquiry Committee to Probe Fatal Fire Incident at PIMS

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted an inquiry committee to conduct a high-level investigation into the fire incident at PIMS Hospital, Islamabad, which resulted in the deaths of fourteen newborn babies. Former Interior Secretary Shahid Khan will head the committee.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister chaired an emergency meeting in Islamabad, where he expressed deep indignation over the tragic incident and ordered the strictest possible action. During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif suspended the Federal Secretary of Health and directed him to leave the gathering immediately.

In a move to address the accountability, a notification regarding the suspension of Health Secretary Muhammad Aslam Ghauri was issued. The Prime Minister also appointed Secretary Housing, Retired Captain Muhammad Mahmood, with the additional charge of Secretary Health to ensure continuity in the health department’s operations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, stating that the nation shares in the grief of the parents who lost their children. The government has pledged to uncover the causes of the incident and prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
