Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized that enhancing exports should be made the foundation of Pakistan’s economic growth. Chairing a review meeting in Islamabad on improving the country’s exports, he said in addition to traditional sectors, more sectors should also be prepared to export to international markets.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister stated that the maximum possible number of sectors and industries should be brought into export activities to diversify trade. Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the need for effective measures to align the quality of Pakistani products with international standards, strengthen quality assurance systems, and ensure compliance with global regulations. He stressed the importance of value addition in exports to enhance both the value and competitiveness of Pakistani products in global markets.
The Prime Minister directed the promotion of modern technology, research, and innovation in export-oriented industries. He emphasized that the country’s economy should fully benefit from digitalization and modern technology to meet contemporary requirements. The Prime Minister also instructed the removal of administrative and business-related obstacles faced by exporters, urging that the export process should be made easier, faster, and more transparent.
During the meeting, progress regarding the implementation of the approved strategic roadmap for promoting exports was reviewed. Various proposals concerning access to new international markets, diversification of export sectors, improvement in product quality, and business facilitation were also discussed. It was informed that efforts are underway to conclude free trade agreements and preferential trade agreements with several friendly countries to increase the access of Pakistani products to global markets.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted initiatives being taken to include Pakistani horticultural products in the country’s exports. Pakistani exporters are being encouraged to participate in international hospitals’ tenders and procurement processes to boost exports of Pakistani surgical and medical equipment.
