PM Orders Crackdown on Sugar Smuggling and Hoarding

Lahore: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the federal and provincial governments to ensure the provision of food items to the common man at affordable rates during Ramazan. He was chairing a meeting in Lahore today regarding sugar supply and price control in the country.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister instructed the authorities concerned to devise a strategy for the provision of food items at affordable rates. He emphasized taking strict action against the smuggling and hoarding of sugar. The Prime Minister noted that the government’s recent crackdown on sugar smuggling has been effective in combating the issue.

Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that providing sugar and other food items at affordable rates to the people is a top priority of the government. During the meeting, a detailed briefing on sugar production was provided, informing that there is currently a sufficient stock of sugar in the country.

The meeting was also informed that fair price shops have been established at the provincial level for the sale of sugar at affordable rates. Provincial chief secretaries assured the meeting that stern action would be taken against sugar hoarding, and district administrations would work vigilantly in this regard.
