PM Seeks Enhanced Cooperation with China’s Tianjin Port

Tianjin: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed Pakistan’s desire to further deepen and expand cooperation between Pakistani ports and China’s Tianjin Port. He was talking to a Chinese delegation led by Standing Member of the Communist Party of China, Tianjin and Party Secretary of Tianjin-Benhai Area Leon Mao Jin in Tianjin today (Monday).

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister said Pakistan looks forward to increasing economic cooperation and trade with Tianjin-Binhai New Area and wants to benefit from the Area’s expertise in port handling and port operations. He underlined the pharmaceuticals, biomedicine, and animal vaccines industries of Tianjin-Binhai New Area as the priority sectors to increase cooperation with.

Highlighting China’s role in the socio-economic development of Pakistan, the Prime Minister said Pakistan’s energy and infrastructure sector has witnessed significant growth under the CPEC. He said Phase 2 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will focus on smart cities, cooperation in the agro-industry, and next-generation technology industry. The Prime Minister said they welcome Chinese companies to set up special economic zones in Pakistan.

Shehbaz Sharif mentioned Pakistan’s milestones in economic reforms during one and a half year and appraised the Chinese delegation that he is personally overseeing reforms including digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue, promotion of a new national economic policy, and IT-related initiatives. The Prime Minister invited a delegation of prominent figures from industrial and economic sectors of Tianjin to visit Pakistan.

Underscoring the prominent and unique position of Pak-China friendship in the world, Shehbaz Sharif said the two countries have stood by each other in every difficulty. On the occasion, Tianjin-Benhai New Area Party Secretary Leon Mao Jin briefed the meeting about Pakistan-Tianjin trade in fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, tires, minerals, and fisheries, and other major industrial sectors of the Area. He said attention will be paid to expanding Tianjin-Binhai New Area businesses and industries to Pakistan.

Leon Mao Jin expressed the desire to expand Tianjin-Binhai New Area’s trade with Pakistan, especially through e-commerce. He reiterated the commitment to expanding the reach of Tianjin-Binhai New Area businesses and industries into Pakistan, highlighting the mutual benefits such collaboration would bring.
